REHIS Courses

FOOD SAFTEY

  • Level 1 REHIS Courses
    • Elementary Food Hygiene - This is an examined course of a minimum of six hours duration. Intended for everyone who handles food, it provides a general introduction to food hygiene issues including hazard analysis and provides the necessary knowledge and information needed to underpin good food safety practices. The examination is a 30 question multiple-choice paper with a 60% pass mark. Successful course participants receive the Institute's Elementary Food Hygiene Certificate.

  • Level 2 REHIS Courses
    • Intermediate Food Hygiene - This is a course with a minimum of 17 hours duration, and is an examined course for food handlers who have successfully completed the Elementary Food Hygiene Course. It is particularly suitable for supervisors. The Intermediate Course builds on the knowledge obtained on the Elementary Course, and further reinforces the important role of HACCP-based systems. The course is examined, and a two-hour, 20 question, short answer examination, with a pass mark of 60%, is used to test the course participant's knowledge. Successful course participants receive the Institute's Intermediate Food Hygiene Certificate.

  • Level 3 REHIS Courses
    • Advanced Food Safety - is of a minimum of 36 hours duration and is intended for managers, hygiene specialists and prospective course presenters. It is an examined course, and course participants are normally expected to have successfully completed the Intermediate Course. The course covers 17 topic areas dealing with all the main food safety issues, and covers in detail HACCP systems and the training and education of food handlers. Course presenters are drawn from a wide cross-section of food safety disciplines and must be pre-registered with REHIS. All course participants have to successfully complete four written assignments before they can sit the three-hour written paper and an oral examination. The pass mark is 60%. Successful course participants receive the Institute's Advanced Food Hygiene Diploma.


    HEALTH & SAFETY

  • Level 1 REHIS Courses
    • Elementary Health & Safety - is an examined course of a minimum of six hours duration. Intended for employees in all business sectors, it provides a general introduction to safety issues and provides the necessary knowledge and information needed to underpin safe working practices. Covering health and safety legislation, risk assessment, slips trips and falls, hazardous substances, work related ill health, manual handling, the general working environment, machinery and equipment, electricity at work, fire and accidents and emergencies, it will assist both employers and employees in meeting their legal obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
  • Level 2 REHIS Courses
    • Intermediate Health & Safety - of a minimum of 16 hours duration, is an examined course for employees, supervisors and managers who have successfully completed the Elementary Health and Safety Course. The Intermediate Course builds on the knowledge and information obtained on the Elementary Course and introduces the concepts of managing health and safety issues, the methods of hazard identification and the general principles of risk assessment, and the principles of accident prevention. In addition to the topics covered at elementary level, it provides a general understanding of noise at work, personal protective equipment, manual and mechanical handling and ergonomics.
      The Intermediate course is examined. A two hour, 20 question, short answer examination, with a pass mark of 60%, is used to test the course participants' knowledge. This course is particularly suitable for supervisors and managers who are responsible for undertaking straightforward risk assessments in small to medium enterprises. Successful course participants receive the Institute's Intermediate Health and Safety Certificate.

  • Level 3 REHIS Courses
    • Advanced Health & Safety - involves a minimum of 36 hours training and is intended for supervisors and managers who have specific health and safety responsibilities within the workplace. It is also a suitable technical qualification for prospective course presenters. It is an examined course, and course participants are normally expected to have successfully completed the Intermediate Course. The course covers 18 topic areas dealing with all the main health and safety issues, including implementing health and safety policy, effective health and safety management and detailed risk assessment and control. It additionally provides extensive information on fire and explosion, occupational health issues and monitoring and control of exposure to hazardous substances.

      All course participants have to successfully complete four written assignments before they can sit the three hour written paper and an oral examination. The pass mark is 60%. Successful course participants receive the Institute's Advanced Health and Safety Certificate.
